Pumpkin Patch Tradition

This marked the third year we visited the Pumpkin Patch with the Famini crew.  Something tells me it will be our last... :(  Even if it ends up that we can go next year, we'll definitely find a new place for 2013.  We were pretty disappointed with the selection of pumpkins this year.  And in the end, I was pretty disappointed with how my photos turned out.  Sigh.  I want to take a photography class sooo so bad!  Someday...
We had beautiful weather to explore the corn maze and the petting zoo.

LOVE how fun it is to get all four kids together.  Such special friends!

And because I'm a sucker for memories....

And our favorite friends to spend our Sunday afternoon with...

15 Months!

It's amazing to me that Riley is 15 months old today.  That's crazy!  And it's really crazy to me when I think about Gavin at 15 months old.  At 15 months, Gavin was just learning to walk, and we were only a month or so into being back together as a family of three after living in separate states for many months.  When I realized that recently, I realized just how much Jarrod missed out on with Gavin's infant months.  But, anyway...back to the Riles.

This girl keeps us on our toes!  We have her check-up Monday and I'll update with weight stats then, but she's definitely growing.  She's in size 4 Luvs diapers and wears 12-18 month clothes.  Like her brother, her pants always seem to be a little smaller.  :)  She wants to eat all the time, and especially loves carbs!  {No idea where she gets that from!}  Luckily her sleep habits got under control and she now sleeps about 11 hours at night and takes one 1.5-3 hour nap in the afternoon.

Riley is our wild one.  She runs away when she knows she's in trouble, and she climbs EVERYTHING!  Because of her obsession with her blanket, she's had a bruise on her forehead for a little while now because she tries to carry her blanket around and keeps tripping over it; if we put it in her crib, she pulls it back out through the slats.  Riley started Mom and Tot class this morning, and now has a busted lip after tripping and hitting the trampoline.  Water is one of Riley's favorite things, whether it's in the bath, just washing her hands, or wanting to swim.  She knows several words now - mama, daddy, shoes, ball, uh oh, woof, and nose, and she says 'Ga' when I say Gavin.  Also, Riley uses the signs for please, more, eat, milk, all done, and help.  But....she understands so much more.

According to Gavin, she's our 'mean child' because she does beat him up a little!  She likes to scratch and hits him if she doesn't get her way.  She's really getting good at the tantrums, too.  If she doesn't get her way with me, she puts her hands over her eyes (like she's hiding) or lays face first on the floor.  Cute, huh?

But, we do love her!  She is going through a Daddy's Girl phase, for sure...she will go to the door and say 'daddy' several times through the day.  She loves playing with him on the floor at night, and I love that I can finally leave the house and have a good time without worrying about her being at home screaming! :)

Riley Savannah, you're our favorite little girl!

30 Things Update!

Another update....working my way through!  Still lots to do!
  1. Learn to use my new sewing machine and make something special for both kids - This is a work in progress...I'm really enjoying learning my new sewing machine
  2. Crochet Riley a hat
  3. Complete C25K - Couch 2 5K   Complete!  (Though I hurt my shin in the process and can't run now...but I'm the ice and stretches will eventually help)
  4. Plant an herb garden (or at least one herb!) - I attempted one the Jackie bought for me, but it never did take off.  Now, I've planted just cilantro in a mason jar...we'll see if it grows.  {Yeah, it didn't.  I suck at growing things!}
  5. Create a collage in Photoshop Elements
  6. Make from scratch - a pie, a cake, and brownies
  7. Have a Mommy-Son date
  8. Cook a turkey
  9. Collect letters to spell PATE for our kitchen - Have the A and the E!
  10. Get a facial
  11. Take the kids to the beach - Trip scheduled for September 30!
  12. Write a letter to myself to open when I'm 40 {cute idea...but I'm scared I'll forget to open it when I'm 40...still going to try!} - In the process of completing this.
  13. Figure out how to make a DVD of my Flip videos
  14. Go to a drive-in movie
  15. Send at least two 'snail mail' letters/cards each month {thanks for the inspiration, Lauren!} Complete for Feb, Mar, Apr, May, June, July....slacked in Aug and Sept.
  16.  Pay for a stranger's meal in the drive-thru lane
  17. Give up pop for a whole month {just have to figure out a good month to do that...}
  18. Go on a family picnic
  19. Create a survival kit- Not to the extent I wanted, but I do feel better about having some supplies in the closet for when we're hunkered down during a tornado warning
  20. Attend a baseball game - Daddy and Gavin did this, but we haven't done one as a family yet
  21. Organize all our photos - huge task!
  22. Read a 'classic' book - I have a feeling I'll fail this one; I'm just not a classics lover!  I tried twice and gave up.  I'll attempt it again.
  23. Publish another blog book - Done!  And I love it!  If any bloggers want a link to the website, I'd love you to use my referral link.
  24.  Play in the rain with Gavin {and Riley if she's old enough when this occurs} I'm counting the 'sprinkle' we played in...we didn't have much rain this summer!

  26. Go 'camping' in the backyard
  27. Repurpose something...anything
  28. Send someone flowers
  29. Learn to make bows for Riley

Oct 23, 2012

I've been slacking...but really I've also been too lazy to go through all the pictures other people have shared from Megan's wedding and save them to my computer so that I could share them here.  And then, Megan shared the slideshow that their photographer created!  Perfect!

Once I have time to actually save some to my computer, I will share more individual shots from the beautiful day, but until then, enjoy these...

You're welcome, Megan!

Enjoy, everyone.  I present to you....the beautiful beach bride's Baywatch imitation.

Oct 16, 2012

I woke up thinking about the beach today and all the memories we made.  Here are some that we just don't have photographic proof of...
  • Walking up and down the 32 stairs from bottom level to top level of the house.  Over and over and over again.  I got a good workout at that house!
  • Running with my honey!  It's hard to escape for time away when we don't have family nearby and my littlest one isn't keen on babysitters.  So even though it was a quick 30 minute job, I LOVED running on the beach with Jarrod....our first run together since I started running last spring.
  • Gavin's countless hours playing pool with his Aunt Briana and Uncle Tyler.
  • Jarrod and I sitting on the steps of the gazebo in the dark, listening to the waves crash late one night.
  • Gavin learning how to 'shoot' water out of the noodle, thanks to Uncle Kyle.
  • Riley falling in love with the little booster seat we were using as a stepstool for Gavin.  We have to get her a little chair of her own!
  • Watching the kids get so excited every time we went in the elevator.  {Yes, the house had an elevator IN it!}
  • Watching Gavin fall asleep on the floor one night because he was so exhausted....and the couch the next night.  The boy played hard on vacation!
  • Hearing Gavin tell us excitedly about going crab hunting at night with everyone.
  • Watching tons of dolphins play in the water from our living room.
  • Riley's tantrums over getting out of the pool, or leaving the ocean, or not wanting us to hold her in the pool, or not letting her in the ocean...
And of course...I keep thinking about these views...

More OBX photos

I know, I know....everyone's waiting for wedding photos.  I'm getting there.  I didn't get many on my camera, as I've said before, so I'm catching up on everything else and waiting patiently for everyone else to post theirs so I can share them! :)

Gavin definitely made a new friend at the beach....Uncle Kyle is pretty awesome to hang out with.  He reads superhero books and makes a certain little four year old laugh.  A lot.

Riley had fun playing with baby Alexis, Kyle's niece.  She really liked trying to poke her face for some reason.

It might take her a while to warm up right now {she's especially cautious around men for some reason}, but she still enjoyed spending time with Beepa!

Two hundred fourteen.  That's how many stairs to the top of the Currituck Beach Lighthouse.  And Gavin climbed the entire thing by himself.  With a 'cape' on because he was Batman that morning.  Gotta love the superhero phase!

Riley made it to the top courtesy of Daddy.

 Batman enjoyed the view!

And what a view it was!

Some family shots...minus Gavin for some reason.
