Happy Halloween!

Yesterday, my little skeleton and I headed to Danielle's for the Mommies Gone Wild playgroup Halloween party. Unfortunately, the illnesses going around have hit the playgroup, so we had a lot of kiddos that couldn't make it. But, the few of us that were there had fun. Too bad the kids didn't want to wear their costumes too long. I didn't get many pictures of them with their costumes on. Oh well! Enjoy!

Gavin wearing his borrowed skeleton costume! Thanks, Evan, for letting Gavin wear it. The lion costume was just too scary for him :) Mackenzie the Giraffe
Laurel....little Miss Strawberry Shortcake
Liam the Dog
Ever seen a skeleton ride a tricycle before?
Robbie, the Lion (can't you tell?) rocking it with the guitar!
Evan saying "Cheese!"
Buddies :) Evan and Gavin

We'll be heading over to Alex and Stephanie's tonight for Trick or Treating. The weather isn't supposed to be great at all...rain! So, if it rains, we'll just be hanging out with their kids. Should be a fun night, though. Happy Halloween, everyone!

Fun Times Friday

I love pumpkin carving time! Jarrod enjoys the carving, but hates gutting them. Call me strange, but I actually enjoy sticking my hand in all that goop :) So, earlier this week we carved pumpkins with Gavin. He's taking after daddy and wanted nothing to do with all the nastiness inside the pumpkin, but he did enjoy picking up the seeds and putting them in the bowl. We used the seeds later in the week for a craft. Here are some pictures we took. His final pumpkin, courtesy of mommy, was a Mickey Mouse pumpkin. I wanted to do something he might recognize, and it was the easiest choice :)

Thankful Thursday

I'm so thankful that I have a sister like Megan (Happy Birthday, Megan! You're a quarter-century now!) Megan is always the one I turn to for advice or a listening ear, because she always knows just what to say. I cherish the times we had "sister nights" when we were both in high school, preparing for me to leave for college. We spent many fun nights painting pottery at The Kiln, giving each other massages, and just spending time together. I'm excited for her to visit me in NY so I can show her around and introduce her to Upstate NY. :)

When I was visiting home, I not only got a lovely hour long massage (thank you, Cincinnati School of Medical Massage, for teaching my sister awesome new techniques!), but she also gave me an amazing early Christmas present. It was a total surprise....and Jarrod and I are so in love with it! We can't wait until she finishes it and sends it our way.

If you want to see what the original picture looked like, click on her blog below. It's based off the 4th picture down, a shot she took of Gavin back in June when he was about 13 months old.

And, yes, she is taking orders for custom portraits on her website if you're interested. www.mokopo.com :)

Vacation, Part 3

Wordless Wednesday is off today so that I can finish uploading vacation shots. There are a ton today, so be prepared! After we got back from our visit home, we drove up to Gananoque, Ontario Canada to see the Thousand Islands area. It was gorgeous! Thousand Islands is a region in New York and Canada along the St. Lawrence River. Literally there are over 1800 islands throughout the river and it's so breathtaking! We were there during their off season, so there wasn't a ton to do. But, we enjoyed a boat tour of the islands and drove around some of the towns to see the scenery. Here are some pictures from our two days there. :)

We wanted to find a cabin, but they were really expensive, so we found a suite at Holiday Inn Express. Gavin made himself at home immediately. He jumped right on the couch and picked up the phone to say "Hello!" We ended up unplugging the phone because he wanted to play with it so much! The afternoon that we got there, we found one of the only boat tours that was still running and bought tickets for a 1 hour tour. Here are some pictures from the tour.
While waiting for the boat

On the boat

Boldt Castle - this place was gorgeous - from the outside! Of course, the tours of the castle stopped the weekend before we got there so we couldn't go in. The story behind Boldt Castle is very tragic - a man building it for his wife, but then she unexpectedly died and he couldn't finish it, so he moved back to Europe.

He built that gorgeous castle for his wife, and this is what he built for his mother-in-law! On it's own little island, and she couldn't swim! The tour guide said he would drop her off in the spring and pick her up in the fall.

This was his yacht house
This is the shortest international bridge. There is a house on one island, which is in Canada, but their "backyard" with a flagpole is on another island, connected by the bridge. Well, the backyard is actually on the American side of the river. So, here you have the shortest international bridge!
On Thursday, we drove around and stopped to take pictures along the Island Parkway. Here is one of the gorgeous houses. Keep in mind that this is on its own little island! You have to take a boat to get to your house. :) Don't you like how they have a little boat garage?
On Thursday, we went up in the observation tower to see the whole region. I think the guide said we were 400ft above the water. I could be wrong... It was a foggy day and the rain was moving in so the pictures don't really do it justice. It was breathtaking!

Once the rain moved in, we just went back and hung out in the hotel room. Gavin loved the jacuzzi tub we had. He played in there a couple times each day! He loved that he could watch Sesame Street from the tub. :)

Overall it was a great trip. I wish it had been a little warmer, and the food we ate for dinner each night was awful, but the fall colors were gorgeous! It was a great place to visit, and we'd loved to go back next summer to spend more time on the water. Once we got home from Canada, we spent the weekend at home to close out our vacation. We had a wonderful week!

Vacation, Part 2

I'm so lucky to have such amazing friends! I missed these girls so much! While we were in Cincinnati, Lindsay, Sara, and Tori came down for a visit. Gavin was so excited to see Zoe, though I think Zoe was a little more excited about seeing "Gabin" (which you'll see in pictures below!) We had a great day hanging out, visiting the museum and having lunch. Now I can't wait for them to visit New York so I can show them around Rochester, take them to Strong Museum, and hit up Melon Bean! :)

Gavin, Zoe, and their mommies Oh no! My crazy girlfriend is here and she's going to kiss me!
Give me a hug, Gabin.

Gavin's in heaven...."ahhs" everywhere (his word for ball)

Cutest little tushes ever
Aunt Lindsay helping Zoe with the water table
Wonder how we get in there?
The girls wore Gavin out! He slept on the booth at the restaurant while we ate.
Time for a goodbye kiss!
And a BIG squeeze to remember me by! :)

Vacation, Part 1

Jarrod's last vacation of the year was this past week, and we filled those 9 days as full as we could! He worked until 1 on Friday, then we caught a 5:00 flight home to Cincinnati. It was so nice to spend time at my parents' house and with Jarrod's family. We were there until Tuesday, and my only regret is that we didn't have a car to make a trip up to Dayton to see our friends. I would have loved to have visited Shaw and saw all the kids. But, with all the illnesses going around, maybe it is best that we didn't! Here are a lot of pictures from the Cincy visit in no particular order.

Nothing better than grandma love early in the morning...again, Gavin has red eyes. Devil child! Hanging with my Uncle Tyler before he leaves for school

My Aunt Briana is hilarious!

Helping Grandma with the laundry

Grandpa reading me a book

I'll read this one on my own!

Ok, I guess Uncle Ty and Aunt Bri can help me.

Here, Maddie...take your bone!

My sisters are so beautiful!

Gavin playing with Aunt Rosi and Aunt Sandy

He loved playing under the table

My grandmas are crazy! They were trying to get me to jump off the dining room table!

Maddie is my new best friend. Shirley never lets me do this!

While we were in Cincinnati, we of course had to eat Skyline (more than once) and Larosa's. We even made it to Pomodori's for lunch on Monday and had Chick-Fil-A in the airport before we left. Pretty sad when you visit home and spend most of the time at restaurants! We had fun with Travis and Ashley, hanging out at their place. Uncle Travis taught Gavin a new trick...
Well, he says he didn't teach him that...but he spent 5 minutes alone with Gavin and this is what he does 2 minutes later...you do the math! :) Just kidding, Trav.
We had a big family dinner while we were home since we're not going to make it home for Thanksgiving. I was so thankful that we could do that. I think that was my favorite part of the trip. All of us together, eating and watching football... Fun times!
More vacation pictures and stories coming tomorrow!
